Reviews from Genji Kyoto’s 1st Year
A year ago when we first opened our doors, it was with great hope and excitement as well as trepidation. Covid was raging, the travel industry was still in the doldrums, and it wasn't clear when in-bound visitors would be allowed in.
We had thankfully already overcome many challenges in the design and construction phase, and managed to welcome our first guests on our targeted opening. But is it enough that we have a unique design, gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfasts, and gardens that reflect the beauty of Japanese nature and culture? Is the dedication and hospitality of our young team touching the hearts of our guests?
It is with deep gratitude that we look back today on the kind messages that our guests have left for us in the past year. So many of them are heart-felt, encouraging and kind beyond words, and all of them more valuable than any hotel training course. We share a number of reviews here (some excerpted) and express our thanks to all.

An amazing place which I highly recommend. The decoration is clean, contemporary, and comfortable. The location is right next to the river with great views. But most of all the staff were really helpful, from reserving restaurants (really important) to finding hard to find stuff in Kyoto. Bravo.

Genji Kyoto was by far the best stay I’ve had in Japan. The hotel staff are exceptional and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Hotel design is first class and rooms are amazing. Could not recommend this hotel more highly!

お値段はそれなりにしますが、とても良いホテルです。スタッフの方も、とても親切にご対応いただけました。場所はバス通りの外れにあり少し分かりにくいですが、とても静かで良い場所味あります。バスで行くなら、4番バスで河原町正面の停留所が近いと思います。京都駅から歩くと20分くらいかかるのでバスがオススメです。鴨川が側にあり、5階の屋上テラスから魚影が見られました。テラスにはテーブル席があり、鴨川を眺めながらのんびりできます。

The best experience we have ever had in Japan.We went as a special occasion for my wife’s birthday and it was an absolutely perfect experience! The staff were all bilingual, friendly and anticipated our needs. They made us an amazing cake for her birthday and were gracious, even when we ordered room service out of the normal hours. The bartender was super cool and all the food unique and delicious. The chef even came out to attend to our needs.

Came on a business trip, I needed a place where I could do work, have meetings, eat and drink. This place has comfortable places to get work done, a beautiful roof top garden where you can meet with people, and the chef cooks incredible food. Each morning I would have coffee in the lobby, which is a really comfortable place to hang out, and the coffee was also really good. The room is really modern, beautiful, open. 9月5日から7日まで２泊滞在しました。路地のようにデザインされたエントランスを入り、扉を開けると爽やかな風と心地よい音楽が迎えて来れました。細部にデザインが沢山詰め込まれたエントランス‧ロビーはウェルカムドリンクを頂きながらついつい長居してしまう程、心地よく贅沢な空間。滞在中は、コーヒーやビールを楽しまれている方も見受けられました。私は、４０４号室に滞在。部屋に入るとドーンと鴨川と清水寺が真正面に見え、テンションが上がるViewでした。初日は、天気が良く普段なら直ぐに外へ繰り出しますが、気持ち良く光が入る部屋の中でソファーに座りながら窓から見える景色や鳥達を眺める時間をゆっくり楽しみました。「ホテルの部屋から出たくない！」と正直に思うほど最高の空間でした。拘りのデザイン空間や景色など背景にインスタライブや動画配信など行うのもオススメです。畳、瓦、石畳、小石、檜木風呂などなど沢山の素材が凝縮された空間は、デザイン好きの方は勉強にもなる部屋のデザインでした。京都には沢山の宿がある中、隠れ家的な存在ながらついつい皆んなに伝えたくなるホテルでした。思い出に残る最高の滞在有難う御座いました。

Genji Kyoto exceeded our high expectations in every way! The location is within walking distance of the train station as well as many sights. There is also a subway stop 5 minutes away that will take you to many other destinations such as Fushimi Inari Shrine. Breakfast was outstanding and delivered to our room with great care. Our room (Deluxe river view I believe) was gorgeous. The icing on the cake was the hospitality of everyone here. Impeccable service - we felt like royalty! Thank you Genji Kyoto.

While the property was not personifying luxury in a traditional sense, it made up for in the sense that everything you needed was presented within minutes, from a drink in the lobby to what proved to be the most delicious breakfast we had during our travels.At the risk of being cliche, that's truly was a sense of home away from home. You knew the name of each person behind the reception desk, as this team exuded a level of serving that even the best luxury hotels can't replicate. Genji Kyoto hotel is a very special and unique place for visitors who like Art and culture. The whole place makes people feel so comfortable (home sweet home). This hotel is the hotel with the best service that we ever received. The setting is amazing on the river (The rooftop is opened to everyone and you can have breakfast their), very quite and unique neighbourhood but very close to the main entertainment and food quarter (walking distance). The room is fantastic, and the details in which every item was chosen is nothing but genius. Again, the service level from the receptionists to the cook (wonderful). Special thanks to Mao, who helped us a lot. A real experience. Do not miss!
