A Memorable Event

What makes a good event?  The right venue, an engaging theme, interested participants, and of course delicious food and drinks!

We are happy to say we experienced just such an event when we staged our first joint promotion with Al Porto Caffe for a Genji Kyoto Pasta Open House.  Our Genji Lounge in the lobby was just the right venue - not too small, not too large.  It wasn't just a dinner but an Open House where guests could tour our rooms and gardens. We wanted to juxtapose Western cuisine and Japanese style architecture and gardens.  It was a theme that attracted even guests from Kobe, who were happy to stay on after dinner.

Guest Chef Suematsu gave a cooking demonstration in front of our Zen garden.  The food was delicious, guests mingled freely, the atmosphere was convivial.  It is what we always wanted to offer as a hotel:  not just rooms for travelers but also a communal space for Kyoto residents to make new friends, enjoy new happenings in a less discovered neighborhood, and add to the rich fabric of the city.

We would like to share some pictures of our event on 2022.09.17.

The evening started off with 7 appetizers: cherry tomatoes with mozzarella, red sea break carpaccio, okra and tarot in in aioli sauce, prosciutto and salami, snow crab and avocado tartare, carrot consommé jelly, tomato simmered tripe with flavored vegetables.

Then we had 3 kinds of pasta: cold capellini with tomatoes and basil, Al Porto's signature carbonara spaghetti, and pasta with Matsutake mushrooms topped with crispy tilefish scales and Kujo green onions.

The last pasta was definitely the star of the evening, with the season's first Matsutake and the surprise pairing with grilled fish.

After dessert and a few more drinks from the bar, it was time to relax on our rooftop Sky Forest Garden where the first breeze of autumn blew ever so lightly that evening.
